Mercedes Bryce Morgan made her mark on international festivals with Spoonful of Sugar, but it is with Fixation that she really finds her voice and that she makes our little hearts eaten up by evil. The camera never leaves the magnetic Maddie Hasson and embroils us in her tortuous mental labyrinth, in a frenzy that is a priori double or nothing, ready to lead us astray several times along the way. The film is driven by an unshakeable faith in its narrative, no matter how many breaks, convoluted angles and movements, and nonsensical choreography to navigate from one setting to the next in a single burst. Fixation is at once a tango, a rock and a zumba.
